Art Awaits: Follow The Trail
Lower Hutt is set to host its first-ever Art Trail on the weekend of 19-20 October 2024, 10.00am-4.00pm. The event will feature over 50 artists from across the Lower Hutt Region, from Taita to Eastbourne. This pilot event aims to establish the Art Trail as a permanent annual fixture.
The trail includes 30 stops, offering a diverse array of artistic disciplines such as painting, pottery, printmaking, collage, textile arts, weaving, woodwork, glass art, jewellery, metalwork, and mixed media. Visitors can view these works in both artists' studios and various pop-up sites and galleries throughout the city.
For artists, the Art Trail presents a unique opportunity to interact with visitors, showcase their talent, sell their work, and draw attention to the district, benefiting the entire community. For visitors, it provides a chance to engage with artists, view their creations, and purchase or commission artwork directly from the creators, experiencing the rich artistic offerings of Lower Hutt.
In addition to the studio and gallery exhibitions, artworks will be displayed in shop windows around the CBD along High Street and Queen Street. The event will also feature exhibitions at Hutt Art, The Learning Connexion, and the Petone Depot, with both the Dowse and Hutt Art offering drop-in workshops throughout the weekend.
This website, along with a printed catalogue and guide, will assist visitors in navigating the trail. This guide will detail the locations of participating artists. Approximately 2,000 guides will be distributed across libraries, galleries, museums, cafes, and shops in Lower Hutt and the wider Wellington region. Visitors beginning their journey at Stop 1 - The galleries and studios at Hutt Art, can also collect a printed copy of the catalogue and guide there.
The Lower Hutt Art Trail promises to be a vibrant celebration of local talent and a significant cultural event for the community.
